The rice terraces in Banaue, considered the 8th wonder of the world, belong to a civilization which flourished thousand of years ago.
These are composed of a series of rice paddies with each step measuring 10 feet tall. They were carved with bare hands and primitive tools. When joined from end to end, these terraces would span a distance halfway around the earth.
This engineering feat is a testimony of the patience and ingenuity of the Ifugaos.

Different regions of the Philippine Archipelago yield varieties of corals which are both colorful and and variable in form.
Most of the coral fanciers search
for corals that are different from the ordinary type.
The areas around Zamboanga, Jolo, Tawi-Tawi and the southernmost tip of the Philippines abound with various form of corals because of the strong warm current passing through these areas, which are not affected by the rampant blasting.

The graceful spires of the domed mosques at Taluksangay, Zamboanga is a sharp contrast to the conventional Christian Architecture dominating in most of the Catholic areas in the Philippines.
The presence of mosque in several provinces in Mindanao, indicates the spread of Islamic influence in southern Philip-pines, about two centurist ahead of Christianity.

The town of Calamba is on the shore of Laguna de Bay, a part of Laguna province, and about an hour ride from Manila. It is historically famous in the Philippines, being the hometown of DI. Jose Rizal, the greatest hero and martyr of the country•
The "Big Jar'' in the town plaza of Calamba was cons-tracted in 1938, as the town symbol.
Legend has it that the town of Calamba got its name from "kalan banga" Tagalog for clay jar, a popular household utensil used during the early days.

RIZAL PARK

STORY

The execution of Filipino patriot José Rizal on December 30, 1896 in the same area fanned the flames of the 1896 Philippine Revolution against the Kingdom of Spain. The park was officially named in his honor, and the monument enshrining his remains serves as the park's symbolic focal point.

"ARCHAEOLOGY"
Our Collections Archaeology

Earthenware

The earthenware artifacts of the National Archaeological Collection are composed of low-fired ceramic vessels that span from about 2250 BCE to 18th century CE. The collection comprises whole and fragmented ceramic vessels acquired through archaeological excavations, donations, purchases, and confiscation that commenced across the country in the 1950s. As a whole, the collection includes significant assemblages that exhibit diversity in form and decoration across the Philippine Islands through time. Typical vessel forms include globular pots, footed dishes, and bowls, with variations depending on space (sites and regions) and time (chronological period). Atypical forms also occur in some cases, especially in burial sites. Most of the objects in the collection were recovered from burial and habitation sites. Archaeologists found that earthenware vessels in burial sites were often used as ritual vessels or containers of grave offerings for the dead, whereas vessels from habitation sites were utilitarian in function and are commonly used in food preparation, cooking, and food storage.

Some noteworthy utilitarian and mortuary vessels from the Earthenware Collection are highlighted below. Included among the utilitarian pieces is a red-slipped Earthenware pot from Cagaya | 2050 dated from 4000 to 3000 years BP, during the Neolithic Age, and a cooking stove from Santa Ana, Manila, dated from the 12th to the 14th century CE. Meanwhile, some examples of mortuary vessels associated with burials in Metal Age cemeteries include a red-slipped goblet from Arku Cave in Cagayan, a decorated carinated bowl from Kalanay in Masbate, and an effigy vessel from the Tabon Caves in Palawan. This practice of burying earthenware vessels with the dead continued until the Protohistoric Period (1000–1521 CE), as seen in vessels from burials in Calatagan, Batangas that are dated to around 14th to 16th century AD. These include variants of a lugged and spouted vessel from Calatagan, Batangas, a squash-type (“kinalabasa”) pot also from Calatagan, and a footed dish with triangular cut-outs from Batangas. These and other vessels from the Earthenware Collection help archaeologists understand ancient societies in the Philippines by providing information on the movement of population, trade and maritime interactions, socio-political structures, cultural identities, and spirituality."

Battle of Leyte Gulf.

Part of the Philippines campaign (1944–1945) of the Pacific Theater of World War II. General Douglas MacArthur and staff, accompanied by Philippine president Sergio Osmeña, land at Red Beach, Leyte, 20 October 1944.

The Battle of Leyte (Filipino: Labanan sa Leyte; Waray: Gubat ha Leyte;) in the Pacific campaign of World War II was the amphibious invasion of the island of Leyte in the Philippines by American forces and Filipino guerrillas under the overall command of General Douglas MacArthur, who fought against the Imperial Japanese Army in the Philippines led by General Tomoyuki Yamashita. The operation, codenamed King Two,[14] launched the Philippines campaign of 1944–45 for the recapture and liberation of the entire Philippine Archipelago and to end almost three years of Japanese occupation.
